Kingspan Light + Air Skylights

Summary

Sky Design Concepts is a factory-certified Kingspan Light + Air installer serving Phoenix, Arizona, representing Bristolite, CPI Daylighting, Skyco, and Solatube. The company identifies existing units, including the retired Major Industries brand, and recommends repair, resealing, or replacement after a free on-site evaluation.

Key Takeaways

  • Kingspan Light + Air is a daylighting group that includes Bristolite Daylighting Systems, CPI Daylighting, Skyco Skylights, and Solatube International, acquired between 2016 and 2021.
  • Sky Design Concepts is a factory-certified Kingspan Light + Air installer across Phoenix and the Southwest, specifying, quoting, installing, and servicing the full family.
  • Major Industries, acquired in 2021, has been retired as a brand name; its Guardian 275 product lines now carry the names GridSpan, UniGrid, and Liteway.
  • An older unit’s stamped name may not match current Kingspan terminology, so Sky Design Concepts identifies the existing product before recommending repair, resealing, or replacement.
  • Signs of Kingspan skylight failure include water stains at the curb, yellowed glazing, cracking, delamination, and fiberbloom on fiberglass panels.
  • Every Kingspan install carries warranty coverage at four levels: manufacturer, glazing, finish, and labor, with factory terms running 10 to 20 years.
  • Every project starts with a free on-site evaluation to confirm the right service and, when needed, document storm-related damage for insurance claims.

Sky Design Concepts represents Kingspan Light + Air, a daylighting manufacturer whose brands include Bristolite Daylighting Systems, CPI Daylighting, Skyco Skylights, and Solatube International. We specify, quote, and install Kingspan skylights, translucent wall and roof assemblies, and tubular daylighting devices on commercial and industrial roofs.

Kingspan Light + Air is a division of Kingspan Group, and its North American business grew through acquisitions between 2016 and 2021. Each acquired company brought its own product lines and part names, and a single building can carry products from more than one of them. Because we represent the family, one contractor can match a new unit to an old curb, a stamped model number, or a mixed roof.

That matters on Arizona roofs. Heat and sun wear on sealants, gaskets, and glazing, so the product choice and the curb detail decide how long a skylight stays watertight. Our commercial skylight installation process starts with a measured roof, not a catalog page.

If you know the brand name on your roof, jump to its section below. If you only know the problem, such as a leaking dome or a yellowed panel, start with commercial skylight repair or read how to tell whether to repair, restore, or replace. Kingspan Light + Air Brands We Represent

Kingspan Light + Air is a daylighting group built through acquisitions, which means a single commercial roof may carry products from several of its sub-brands under one family name.

Bristolite joined Kingspan in 2016 and became part of its Light + Air division. Kingspan’s announcement described Bristolite’s product range as skylights and smoke vents, and building owners still search for Bristolite skylights when a unit needs repair or replacement.

We represent Kingspan’s current skylight range. On a Bristolite roof, we read the nameplate, measure the curb, and check the glazing, gasket, and flashing. Then we tell you whether the unit can be resealed or needs replacement with a current Kingspan unit. See our dome, unit, and polycarbonate skylights page for the glazing options we compare.

CPI Daylighting joined Kingspan in 2017 as part of the Light + Air division. CPI’s lines covered translucent walls, translucent skylights, and daylighting panels, including systems glazed with Pentaglas polycarbonate.

Kingspan now sells some of these lines under its own product names, including QuadSpan polycarbonate roof systems and PentaClad polycarbonate cladding. We install translucent wall and roof assemblies for schools, gymnasiums, and industrial buildings, and we evaluate whether aging panels can be replaced on an existing frame. Our translucent wall and roof assemblies page explains the system types.

Skyco Skylights joined Kingspan Light + Air in 2019. When the acquisition closed, Kingspan said its combined portfolio gave it a broad range of skylights, canopies, smoke ventilation, and daylighting products in North America.

We represent the Kingspan skylight range that includes Skyco. If your roof has a Skyco unit, we identify the model from its stamp and curb size and confirm what a replacement requires before we quote it. For a unit with sound glazing and a failed seal, skylight restoration and wet sealing may cost less than a new skylight.

Solatube International joined Kingspan in 2021 and makes tubular daylighting devices, often called sun tunnels. A rooftop dome collects daylight, a reflective tube carries it through the ceiling space, and a diffuser spreads it across the room below.

Tubular devices suit rooms where a full skylight does not fit, such as interior offices, corridors, and restrooms under a deep roof structure. We install Solatube devices as a represented Kingspan brand. Read more on our tubular skylights page.

Major Industries joined Kingspan Light + Air in 2021, and Kingspan has since retired the brand name. Its Guardian 275 fiberglass roof, wall, and canopy lines now carry Kingspan names: GridSpan, UniGrid, and Liteway. If your roof lists Major Industries or Guardian 275, we identify the unit and match it to the current Kingspan product.

Kingspan Light + Air Products We Install

Kingspan Light + Air divides its daylighting range into toplighting, sidelighting, and canopies and walkways, and it offers both standard and custom products. We match each category to a building type and a roof.

  • Domes and unit skylights: Acrylic and polycarbonate domes and curb-mounted unit skylights fit standard-size roof openings, with glazing choices covered under dome, unit, and polycarbonate skylights.
  • Translucent wall and roof assemblies: Fiberglass systems such as GridSpan and UniGrid, and polycarbonate systems such as QuadSpan and PentaClad, diffuse daylight across large areas.
  • Tubular daylighting devices: Solatube devices bring daylight into rooms without a skylight opening.
  • Canopies and walkways: Kingspan’s Liteway line covers fiberglass canopies and walkways.
  • Metal Building Skylights: profile-matched panels and curb-mount units for steel roofs.
  • Custom skylights: When a standard unit does not fit the opening, we price a custom commercial skylight and confirm lead times before you commit.

The Whole Building Design Guide describes daylighting as the controlled admission of natural light so a building can reduce its electric lighting, a principle the U.S. Department of Energy also ties to measurable energy savings in commercial buildings. That is the test we apply to every product choice: how much light the room needs, where it needs it, and whether the roof can carry it.

Our commercial skylight services team helps with that sizing, and our warehouse and industrial skylights and translucent wall and roof assemblies pages show how it plays out by building type.

Storm Damaged Kingspan Skylights Repair

Arizona’s monsoon season brings high winds, hail, and wind-driven debris that can crack glazing, dent flashing, or dislodge a curb on a Kingspan dome, unit, or translucent panel system in a single storm event, rather than through the gradual wear fiberbloom and UV exposure cause. Storm-related damage is often covered differently than routine wear and tear under a commercial property insurance policy, so it’s worth flagging if a recent storm is behind the cracking or crazing you’re seeing.

Sky Design Concepts documents storm-related damage to Kingspan systems during the on-site evaluation, photographing affected panels, curbs, and flashing, which building owners can use when filing an insurance claim. Mention a recent storm when scheduling your evaluation so our crew can document accordingly.

Signs Your Kingspan Light + Air Skylight Needs Attention

These signs apply to Kingspan, Bristolite, CPI, Skyco, and Major Industries units alike:

  • Water stains or drips near the curb: A failed seal, gasket, or flashing lets water past the glazing.
  • Yellowed or hazed glazing: Sun exposure clouds the panel and cuts the light that reaches the floor.
  • Cracks or crazing in a dome or panel: Impact, heat cycles, and age crack glazing, and a cracked panel leaks.
  • Condensation or delamination between layers: Moisture inside a multiwall panel means the seal has failed.
  • Fiberbloom on fiberglass panels: The resin wears away and exposes glass fibers at the surface.
  • Loose fasteners or sagging panels: Movement at the frame lets water and air through.

Do not walk on a skylight to check it. OSHA’s construction fall protection standard requires protection from falling through holes, including skylights, more than 6 feet above a lower level with personal fall arrest systems, covers, or guardrails.

If you see any sign above, call us for a free on-site evaluation. We decide between commercial skylight repair, restoration and wet sealing, and replacement, and we can add skylight fall protection and guards at the same visit.

Kingspan Light + Air lists its skylight range, glazing options, and sizes on its official Kingspan Light + Air skylights page, which also states that its skylights are manufactured in the United States. The table below shows how the family came together and what each brand covers.

Kingspan has since moved from separate brand names toward one Kingspan Light + Air identity, and in 2023 it introduced new product names. A newer spec sheet may therefore use a different name than the one stamped on an older unit. When we evaluate a roof, we read the stamp and match it to the current Kingspan product.

Kingspan Light + Air renamed several product lines in 2023, so the name on an older Kingspan skylight, wall system, or canopy may not match what Kingspan sells today. This table matches each older name, including Guardian 275 and Quadwall, to its current Kingspan Light + Air product name.

Whether a Kingspan skylight needs repair, resealing, or replacement depends on the condition of its glazing, seals, and curb. This table shows what we usually find on commercial roofs and what we recommend, and our free on-site evaluation confirms the final call.

What We Find

Usual Recommendation

Why

Leak at the curb, glazing intact

Repair

A failed seal or flashing is a local failure, and repair is the first option when the glazing is sound

Sound glazing with a failed seal or gasket

Restoration and wet sealing

Resealing restores the seal without replacing the unit

Yellowed fiberglass panels or fiberbloom

Replacement

Yellowing and exposed glass fibers show the panel has reached the end of its service life

Cracked or broken dome or panel

Replacement

A cracked panel leaks, so we replace the glazing or the unit

Moisture or delamination between panel layers

Replacement

Moisture between layers means the panel seal has failed

Older Bristolite, CPI, Skyco, or Major Industries unit with failed glazing

Replacement with a current Kingspan unit

We measure the curb first, because an older opening may need a new curb or new flashing

Symptoms you cannot place

Free on-site evaluation

We inspect before we recommend, and the evaluation decides between repair, resealing, and replacement, contact us to schedule

These are starting points. The on-site evaluation, not the symptom alone, decides the final recommendation.

Whether it’s a straightforward dome replacement or a custom canopy system, every Kingspan Light + Air project follows the same five-step process from first inspection to final seal check. Here’s what that looks like from start to finish.

  1. Free on-site evaluation: We inspect the curbs, glazing, flashing, and seals, and we photograph what we find.
  2. Identify the existing product: We read nameplates and stamps to name the brand and model, including Bristolite, CPI, Skyco, and Major Industries units.
  3. Select and specify: We choose the Kingspan product, glazing, and curb details, and we confirm lead times for custom work.
  4. Install and seal: We set the unit, flash the curb, seal the joints, and check for leaks before we leave the roof.
  5. Inspect over time: We return to check seals and gaskets and reseal before water gets in.

Every Kingspan Light + Air system we install carries warranty coverage at four levels: the manufacturer’s warranty on the glazing and components, a separate glazing warranty, a finish warranty on the panel surface, and our own labor warranty on the installation itself. Factory warranties typically run 10 to 20 years depending on the specific Kingspan product line, with tubular Solatube devices, dome and unit skylights, and translucent wall assemblies each carrying their own manufacturer terms.

Because we hold factory certification on Kingspan’s current product range, a replacement unit stays within that warranty coverage from day one, something a non-certified installer typically can’t offer.

Why Choose Sky Design Concepts

Sky Design Concepts has built a reputation across Phoenix and the Southwest for honest inspections, quality craftsmanship, and daylighting solutions that last.

translucent wall panels
  • Factory-certified installers: We follow Kingspan’s specifications for curb height, flashing laps, sealant, and glazing gaskets on every unit we set, not a generalized install approach.
  • We know the sub-brand history: Bristolite, CPI Daylighting, Skyco, Solatube, and the retired Major Industries line all show up on Phoenix roofs, and we identify which one you have before we order parts.
  • Arizona-specific experience since 1985: Decades of watching how local heat cycles and UV exposure wear on Kingspan seals and gaskets before the glazing itself fails.
  • An honest repair-or-replace call: We tell building owners whether a Kingspan unit is a resealing candidate or past that point, instead of defaulting to the bigger job.
  • One contractor for mixed-brand roofs: A warehouse with domes over the floor and translucent panels along the wall gets serviced by the same crew, not separate vendors per product line.
  • Free on-site evaluation before any work: Every project starts with an honest inspection and a written scope, so a building owner knows what’s actually needed before committing.
